Question 7: Looking back at your preliminary task, what do you feel you have learnt in the progression from it to the full product?
Here is me on youtube answering question 7.
Question 6: What have you learnt about the technologies from the process of constructing this product?
Here is an animation I made on 'GoAnimate' for question 6:
QUESTION 6 - TECH by ashamariapinder on GoAnimate
Video Maker - Powered by GoAnimate.
Video Maker - Powered by GoAnimate.
Question 5: How did you attract/address your audience?
I attracted and addressed my audience by using layouts, fonts, images and a particular language that would appeal to them. For example my fonts were not girly or soft they were very striking, bold and dominant fonts that relate to the genre of Grime. If I wrote my magazine title in italics I don't think it would attract my target audience. My images demonstrated emotions that are shown in Grime and that is that individuals are extremely tough skinned, aggressive and intimidating. I made sure that on my front cover especially my model fitted that image. My model distinguishes the genre by her clothing, facial expression and body language. The language I use throughout my magazine is slang and broken English that young people tend to use so I stayed far away from extremely long and extravagant language instead I used a language that is more familiar to my target audience. So I used words like 'crep' this means trainers. A reader of a pop magazine would not know this perhaps but my target audience would.
Question 4: Who would be the audience for your media product?
Here is the link for an online presentation I did for this I used prezi.
http://prezi.com/aocodyql5zr6/present/?auth_key=6yj1g43&follow=62ovfqbjrq1p
Question 1: In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge real media products?
How I used, developed and challenged conventions of real media products?
Front cover
When it comes to how I used conventions of real media
products focusing on my front cover, I did use the layout of real Grime
magazines were so for example the name of the magazine is always in a bold
font. When it comes to the model and the individual that is featured on the
Grime magazines they always look aggressive and intimidating, I made sure this
was shown on my front cover. My model is not smiling and she looks extremely fierce.
Grime magazines just like most magazines use the rule of 4 when it comes to
colours. In my front cover I used the colours:
·
Black
·
White
·
Blue
·
Gold
In ‘flavour’ magazine (a real Grime magazine) they used the
colours:
·
Black
·
White
·
Red
·
Grey
Using 4 colours made the magazine look rather neat and it
makes the readers focus more on the image and text also becomes easier to read whereas
in Rock magazines for example they like to use a variety of bright colours
which can create a feeling of illusion.
All the Grime magazines I came across were monthly and 'RWD' magazine puts the issue number and month of the front of their magazine so I
used this convention and developed it by changing the positioning of where they
put it.
Every Grime magazine I came across was free and I wanted to
challenge this convention and make my magazine £2.50. When conducting my target
research I found out that many young people were willing to pay for these
magazines as the people who create it work so hard that they deserve to get
paid. They also said that Grime magazines contain a lot of things that young people
cannot really find on the TV or on the internet. So my magazine shows the price
and bar code on the front cover unlike all the other Grime magazines.
Contents Page
Just like Grime magazines I also kept to a simplistic layout
when it came to my contents page. Having a simplistic layout makes it easier
for readers to defer information on where to find an interview for example and
what page it is on. I categorised my contents page just like all the other
Grime magazines I analysed. Splitting up the contents of your magazine makes it
also easier for readers to find what they are looking for. I advertised my
twitter feed and webpage on my contents as I saw this being done in every Grime
magazine I came across. The images that
are put on Grime magazine contents page link and relate well to the content of
the magazine just like any other magazine so I used this convention and made
sure my images synced well with my content. A lot of Grime magazines don’t put
the page number on the images they used but I did as if an image catches reader’s
eyes instantly I want them to know what page it is on straight away. Images used on my contents page and on other
Grime magazines where similar in a sense that they contained 'bling', clothing
and an aggressive looking individual.
Double Page Spread
From analysing many
Grime magazines and their double page spreads they all continued a simplistic
layout so I incorporated this in my own magazine. But one thing I did challenge
was that the majority of them made sure the image was over half the page whereas
I thought that the content was much more important than the image so I made
sure that the text covered most of the page. Another thing was that the names
of the artist were quite small in comparison to mine. I feel that if you are
flicking quickly through a magazine and see in big words ‘BaddaBoom Tee’ you’re
going to stop and read it. Just like all Grime magazines I labelled the pages
with numbers and the magazines name.

Update on Magazine
My music magazine is almost completed I just have a few touch ups to do regarding the DPS and contents page. This should all be done in about a weeks time from now, so I shall keep on updating you showing my progress and what I have done so far.
The Evaulation Starts
So today I am starting my evaluation for my magazine. This evaluation consists of 7 questions and they are:
Q1. In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenging forms and conventions of real media products?
Q2. How does your media product represent particular social groups?
Q3. What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why?
Q4. Who would be the audience for your media product?
Q5. How did you attract/address your audience?
Q6. What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this product?
Q7. Looking back at your preliminary task, what do you feel you have learnt in the progression from it to the full product?

Interview
I forgot to upload my interview that I had with BaddaBoomTee but here it is.
Grimey caught up with MOBO nominee and best female lyricists and MC in the South London streets. We saw her on our TV Screens featuring in the hit Grime Series ‘Stars in the Hood’. She goes by the name of BaddaBoom Tee! But some like to call her Tiana. She sets Asha Maria straight about when her mixtape is coming and what she has been up to. We find out who inspires her and her life growing up.
You enjoying this fine day?
“Not really; it’s bloody freezing! Take me back to Malia”
Malia, where was our invite, what did you get up to there because I heard you were playing in some clubs?
“Just came back last week, it was beautiful, banging and beyond crazy! Yeah, I played in a club called ‘The Underdog’ and ‘Club 789’ the crowds were amazing, I loved it. Oh sorry, I will pack you and the whole of the Grimey crew in my backpack next time I go”
Oh, I see, I see your doing your thing girl. We are all dying to know why BaddaBoom Tee and not Tiana?
“Tiana is too basic; it’s not a very memorable name. There are probably a billion people named Tiana. BaddaBoom Tee… Let’s break it down *starts to beat box* ‘Bad’ because my music is beyond bad, I’m not that cocky but I produce sick music. ‘Boom’ because Grime beats have a lot of boom and bang sounds and beats to it (this is not no classical business). Tee is my childhood nickname. People remember a stage name like BaddaBoom Tee, its original but the name Tiana would just get lost in the crowd. Look at Jay Z for example his mother didn’t call him Jay Z she called him Shawn Corey Carter but he is not going to use that name, it’s not cook plus it don’t click with his genre”.
Have you always wanted to be a musician? Is it in the blood?
“I have always dreamed of being a musician. I would sing in the mirror and pretend to be Beyoncé in Destiny’s Child with my cousins and primary school friends. I was never one of those girls who dreamed and had aspirations to be a princess or the Queen of England. I wanted to be the ‘Quing’ of Grime. Yeah music is in my blood, veins, chromosomes, liver… I could go on! My mum was a singer of a UK reggae band called ‘Lioness’ and my dad started up the first Reggae record label with his childhood friend Mark Wallis.
‘Quing’ please explain Tiana, what on earth does that mean?
“Lol, Quing is a word I invented, so when you see it in the New English Oxford Dictionary 2015 edition, remember me yeah? It means queen and king as I am not your typical girly girl nor am I am man, clearly!”
We know you can be quite a diva at times as we saw on our TV screens as you featured on Channel AKA’s reality series called ‘The Stars In The Streets’.
“Well that TV programme just really showed the people, the fans and the haters that I’m real! I’m like marmite, you either love me or you hate me! And if you do love me, I appreciate it. The stars in the streets was so fun and I’m sad it’s over. I loved constantly being around people like Chipmunk, Skepta. These MC’s have so much passion.
Who inspired you; your parents or you cat Pickatchoo?
“Ah you can’t be exposing to the readers about my love for cats. Grimey respect my gangster. I’m meant to be this tough and hard character and you got me look might soft. My parents showed me to follow my dreams as you only get one shot at this life, so make it worth it. Tupac was not a Grime artist but he was the greatest rapper ever born! He was not only a rapper but he was poet. The fact that he went to university encouraged me to get my degrees and carry on with my dreams”.
Oh we’re sorry and yeah Tupac was big in his day and still is. Your song ‘Don’t Go There’ has been popping off in the Underground scene. For those readers who don’t know the song, what is it about?
“Yeah it took off like a jet ski. All thanks to my very dedicated and supportive fans. What would I do without them?”
“‘Don’t Go There’ is about the place I call home alongside with the other 64,656 people who love there. People always say “Don’t go Brixton”! “Oh don’t go there, it’s not safe” and that is what inspired my song because Brixton is a beautiful place, full of a lot of diverse people, from all sorts of background. A lot of Grime artists want people to be afraid of them and their hometown but that’s just not me. I am not one to lie about who I really am or lie about what the place I call home is like. I love my hood, man”
Yeah, I hear you. Loving your attitude. Who are you feeling in the music industry right about now?
“Etta Bond! She is amazing, check her out”
We have. She is good. Nice new fresh talent just like yourself. Who would you love to do a collab with?
“If Tupac was alive, God rest his soul, I would 100 per cent do a track with him right now! He is the King of Hip Hop no questions about it. But RoxXxan, ah if me and her did a track together it would be pure fire. So fingers crossed for my next mixtape – you never know”!
Any idea when that mixtape will be coming out?
“My aim is for summer 2013, so plenty of hard work is going to be happening”.
Final question, where does BaddaBoom Tee see herself in 10 years time?
“I see myself bigger and better that I was 10 years ago. But for now I just need everyone to support me so hit me up and follow me on twitter @BaddaBoomTee”

Drop Shadow
Here is a print screen of me trying to improve the picture of the jeans and boots in my contents page. The picture looked quite out of place so I tried to give it a drop shadow in Photoshop. You see the image before and after. I have now come to the conclusion that the image does not look right in my magazine and I am now going to find a new oicture to replace it.

Images for Contents Page Put In Place
Using Powerpoint and Paint
I have nearly completed my Double Page Spread. Here it is. The first print screen shows me using Powerpoint to make my standfirst. I then copy and pasted it on to InDesign. InDesign is quite hard to use if you wanted make your spread look attractive with colours and fonts so that is why I was using Powerpoint and Paint for this.

Which Image Should I Use ?
I have started my front cover on Photoshop and used my flatplan to help me but I decided to change my main image of Tiana as in the picture below her face looks to soft and Grime artists do not look soft, they look extremely harsh. This file shows you how I decided that my new image was much more better in comparison to the original image.

Mz Bratt Interview 2
This is an interview with the same artist Mz Bratt but this is a much more serious interview, where she talks about abuse, relationships and racism and this interview can still appeal to the same target audience so now I have to make a decision if I am going to go for a more comical interview or a more serious interview.
Mz Bratt Interview
Here is an interview with a female MC called Mz Bratt from my genre of underground - Grime. The interview contains a lot of humour which I feel is very important because you have to engage your target audience and my target audience is teenagers and young adults and humour is something that engages them if it's boring then they are not going to read it. It either has to be funny or very serious and if it's serious the audience want an insight in the artist's life.
Editing
I have been playing around with Photoshop and www.befunky.com and editing some of the images that I took this past week. Here are screenshots of me editing one image of an artist I took pictures of on the Tuesday the 29th. I use sepia to change the colour and saturation of the image and Ia lso used a spot tool to remove flaws that my model had on their face. I also whitened his teeth but from this I learnt that I should not lighten it too much as it can look unnatural.
The Main Image is Everything !
So I have finally come to the conclusion of what music genre I am trying to portray and that is 'Underground'. Underground is basically music that is not mainstream so UK Grime/Rap come under this. My main image is going to be of Tiana A.K.A Baddaboom Tee, she is a female with a shaved hairstyle and a more masculine but bright, vibrant and funky dress sense. I have looked at images of UK artists from the underground genre and with the females there are two categories either that they are very sexualised or they are desexualised and made to look quite masculine. Here are two contrasting images.

Shot List
This is my shot list, it is a strict plan that will ensure that I take all my pictures when I need to and I am clear on what shots and what equipment I need. I used it for 2 of my shoots so far and it really helped.
My 8 Interview Questions
The 8 questions I am going to ask my artist
· It’s a new year so what are your resolutions for 2013?
· Have you always wanted to be a musician, is it in the blood?
· Tell us who inspired you, your parents or your cat pikatchoo?
· Who would you love to collab with?
· Who you feeling right now in the music industry?
· We want to know where do you see yourself in 10 years?
· Why BaddaBoom Tee, why not Tiana?
· So you're at college - what are you studying?
Tuesday, 29 January 2013
What I need to know before considering before planning your questions?
• What my readers already know about my artist?
• What my readers want to know about my artist?
• If it is going to be formal or informal interview?
• Timing – interview is not too long or short
• Chatty text
• Conventions of Grime and Hip Hop interviews
I have watched and got some ideas from looking at an interview with Chipmunk. I have noticed that Grime artists like Chip himself take interviews much more seriously when talking espicially about their hertiage and background.

FLATPLAN
This is my front cover, my main colours are white, black, pink and yellow or green. I am aware that I may change my colour scheme depending on the gender of the person I am using on my front cover. To improve my front cover I need to make sure that the fonts relate to the genre of my music magazine which is UK Grime.
This is my contents page. I am going to change the font of the word 'contents' making sure you can tell it portrays UK Grime and that it follows on and relates to the front cover.

Let the Pictures Commence
Today I am going to start my camera shot list which will help me to get an idea of the kind of shots that I will use for my front cover, contents and DPS.

My Animation Interview
Market Research by ashamariapinder on GoAnimate
Video Maker - Powered by GoAnimate. From this very short interview I found out that people of a young age don't like to pay too much for magazine's as they do not work I also found out that the main image and the feature entices them more to buy a magazine (this was not featured in my animation as there was a limit to how many seconds I could do)

Introducing Marvell Boys
Marvell Boys are a group of young
males who met due to a chain of mutual friends. They go by the names of Double S, Vertex and Shocka from
Tottenham, North London. They created the group in 2008 due to their interest
into grime music. They were quick to gain popularity and huge fan base. I first
met Marvell at Chipmunks concert in the summer of 2010 where they were
performing alongside Chip, Skepta and Wretch 32. As well as producing music
they also have their own clothing range. They use social media to promote
themselves and they are very open and friendly with their fans. I feel this is
important as you want your fans to feel respected and close to you. I regularly
talk to them and also promote them. They take advantage of Web 2.0 and use
sound cloud, twitter, facebook, myspace and YouTube as ways to get more known
and maybe one day signed to a major label.

I have had numerous interviews with people who consume and produce music via twitter which is a very useful social media site. But these interviews will not be posted until the 7th of this month due to my print screen button not working so keep tuned for that as they are very interesting.
We have an interview with 'Marvell' a well know grime group so keep posted !
